Xavier Copel
In recent years Xavier Copel has shot to fame as one of France's star winemakers. A native of Cahors, in Southwestern France, he has set out to produce the finest expressions of this and other neighboring appellations. His belief is that Cahors can produce wines every bit as profound as the classed growths in Bordeaux, and the critical acclaim that has greeted his Primo Palatum wines suggests that he may be right (continued below).
Formerly a winemaker at Domaine de Chevalier, Xavier earned his Diplome Oenologue at the Centre d'Oenologie in Toulouse in 1991. Since 1996 he has worked with leading growers in southwest France and northern Spain in search of exceptional terroirs from which to make outstanding wines.
